I know what you’re thinking….because I’m good like that.
You’re thinking “yeah yeah everybody does this at this time of year. They waste time making pointless resolutions for New Year, that come January 2nd are all forgotten about and are really quite unrealistic anyway”.
I’m right aren’t I. That’s what you’re thinking.
Well maybe you’re right. Maybe you’re wrong.
Who knows.
A wise man once told me “your destiny is in your hands”.
OK I lied, that was a line from Holby City, but the sentiment is there.
Recently, in an episode not that dissimilar to The Matrix, certain things have happened to me, things have been said on TV programmes that I’ve been watching, I’ve encountered things that maybe… just maybe… have happened on purpose. There’s been a message there for me.
For example – The fact that I came across Anoushka Shankar’s album – a sign that I need to relax and meditate more. What better album to use than that.
The messages in the aforementioned Holby City. That I am in control of my life – I steer the direction it’s going in.
The opportunities I’ve taken which I wouldn’t normally and how they have changed my outlook on things (I can’t be very specific here because most of them are work related).
The way I seem to have developed both emotionally and spiritually.
The things that are missing from my life, which I am seeking seem to be presented to me, in less than obvious ways.
Anyway, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and meditating recently and here are my resolutions for 2009. I thought I would publish them so that you can see and tell me how I’m doing.
-
I will spend more time with my close friends for it is them that will not desert me nor I them if the time comes that we need each other’s help.
-
I will not spend as much time dwelling on how things were, but will instead accept the challenges of how things could be.
-
I will spend more time helping those people who need my help whether they think they do or not. For it is that help that will keep them positive.
-
I will be more open about the way I feel.
-
I will spend at least 15 minutes a day reflecting on what I have done, how I have done it and how I can do it better.
-
I will spend at least 15 minutes a day reflecting on what is good around me, rather than focusing on the bad.
-
I will hug people and let them know they are loved and appreciated when sober, not just when I’ve had a few.
-
I will stop swearing to emphasise a point. The words Fuck and Shit will no longer feature in my vocabulary. I will find new words in substitute.
-
I will tell my friends that I love them at every opportunity.
-
I will stop relying on alcohol to bring about a sense of spirituality. Instead I will focus on my inner feelings and how to deal with them through meditation and positive energy.
-
I will do the washing up when it needs doing, instead of leaving it until I have run out of plates, mugs or cutlery.
-
…and finally, I will stop wasting money on ebay.
