Cold War

In time, there’ll be lots of stuff relating to the Cold War.

Right now, it’s a work in progress.

Here’s an idea of some stuff that will be appearing;

The Police War Duties Manual from 1965 – Recently confirmed by the Home Office as being an open document. I have an original copy, complete with rusty binder!

The manual at the time was Restricted and there was a nice little warning inside saying “This manual should not be shown to anyone outside the police service”.

Anyone finding it was requested to “hand it in at a police station” (obviously in the days when people would, rather than now. Nowadays they’d probably try and sell it to the local media).

It’s quite a wordy document, and will take sometime to transcribe it onto here.

Stay tuned!

There’ll also be some exclusive photographs taken by my father during his service at RAF Cottesmore back in the 60’s of Vulcan’s.

Photos of abandoned Royal Observer Corps Posts nearby.

and a few other bits and pieces, sufficiently vague to allow me time to decide what!

    Hi Nick

    I have the same manual,it was issued to me in 1969 when I was a serving Special Constable in the Brighton Police Force. Mine has the number 457 in the top left corner.
    I have seen a photo of a KC Brighton Police Helmet Plate you have put on flickr and wonder if you could help me to get one, so I can add it to my collection.

    Ian.
